"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog, You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart, You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

Waggytail Rescue was borne out of the desire and passion of dog lovers who wanted to help the "unwanted" and abandoned small dogs of New York City. Most of the dogs we rescue are the ones that the City Shelters don't have the time or resources to rehabilitate, so that's where we come in!

We want you and your new Waggytail to start off on the right paw, so this is what to expect when adopting an animal from us.

Our adoptions are by appointment only as our dogs are in foster care, not in a shelter. Please fill out an application for the animal you're interested in and an Adoption Coordinator will arrange a convenient time for you to meet the dog. If you already have a dog, please bring him/her with you so your pup can get acquainted with his or her new buddy.

When you find the Waggytail you just can't live without, we'll have you complete an Adoption Application.

If this all checks out, we will send you and your new Waggytail home to live happily ever after! We do charge an Adoption Donation - this helps to defray the cost of care for the animal such as food, medical treatment and other rescue expenses.

Services included in the Adoption Donation:

  • Spay or Neuter
  • Temperament and Health assessment
  • Age appropriate tests and shots, including rabies

All animals are spayed/neutered and vaccinated BEFORE they leave our care. Puppies will require a Spay/Neuter contract which must be complied with before the puppy reaches its first year. Please see our Adoption Requirements page for more information.

If you ever have a problem that you cannot work out with an animal that you have adopted from us, call us! We will work with you and your adopted Waggytail to help you get the problem solved. If this doesn't work, we ask that you bring the animal back to us. DO NOT take it to another shelter!

Thank you for giving a shelter dog a new life and for doing your part to solve the problem of homeless animals in our city!

Shelter animals may need a little extra work at first, but almost all will blossom with time, love and training. In gratitude they will be your best friends and most loving companions - forever!

We wish you and your new Waggytail many wonderful years together!

Please see our Adoption Requirements page for more information.
