"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog, You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart, You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

KEWPIE is a sweet little old lady with the giant ears and even bigger heart was dumped on the FDR, alone, very sick and terrified. Well, we picked her up and put her into a fabulous foster home, where she never left! Foster parents Sarah and Justin loved her so much that they couldn't bear letting her go. She is now warm, safe and so, so loved.
SPENSER and his two siblings were abandoned in an apartment when their former owners were evicted. Luckily, the spunky triplets were rescued and became lucky Waggytails! Spenser is a funky Senior Citizen with a ready smile and energy to burn who loves to cuddle and snuggle ~ and that suited David and Teresa just fine, who fell in love with him from the moment they spotted him!
SAMSON is sunshine, full of kisses. I am so glad he came to live with me and to "warm your heart" ---- he is sooooo happy. He loves his home and especially his best buddy CC - Cute Cat. Every morning when Samson wakes, he does the worm on the carpet and moves on his back quite a distance. ~ Sandra, 18-year old Samson's new mom on their on their one year anniversary
TEDDY AND JOHNNY "...We absolutely adore the kitties! My other cats began cleaning them as soon as they came in and have become foster parents (we have a six month old male, and female), and our dog just loves to play with them! And my husband – I’ve never seen anything like it! He’s nuts about them! Thank you again for giving us the joy of bringing them into our home. They are so small – they’re wee! I’m in love already! "~ Jennifer, the twins' new "mom"
MAX and ALI are two senior citizens lost their home through no fault of their own. They were scared, stressed out and faced an uncertain future, but when Tyler brought them home, they became an instant family. They're happy now, and looking forward to spending their Golden Years in luxury and peace!
CLEO the tiny Chihuahua with the humungous ears and even bigger heart, Cleo was abandoned at her most vulnerable moment, and kind Stephani melted at the sight of her. They couldn't be happier together and we're so happy they found each other!
OODLE was abandoned at a kill shelter with a request from her former people to be euthanized, sweet little Oodle suffered from a severe respiratory infection and had a badly ulcerated cornea that was treated by our genius vet, Dr G., and was adopted by the Anoliks in New Jersey, where she is finally safe, loved, pampered and adored!
JACKIE CHAN , an energetic little Shih Tzu's owners had to give him up when their little boy became allergic. Luckily, when Jessica met Jackie she knew he was the man of her dreams and now Jackie's livin' the high life!
COCO, such a gentle, loving little girl that everyone who met her couldn't help but fall in love. She was very sick and once she recovered, she suffered seizures and was deemed unadoptable, and was so shy and reclusive she didn't display her true spunky self, but Carol, our super dog trainer saw through her timid facade and fell in love with her and now Coco lives with her and her three cats!
WOLFGANG is a sweet, friendly little old man was abandoned in the Bronx with filthy, matted hair, skinny and malnourished with about 7 teeth in his head, all infected and painful. We cleaned him up, pulled those teeth and Laurie fell madly in love ~ we think they make a lovely couple! (they even look alike, don't they?)
BOGART was dropped off at the City Shelter "for being destructive" ~ which is surprising, because that's the last thing on his mind! He likes everyone, loves to play, and when Jen saw his picture she was completely smitten. He's had a rough go of it, but he's safe in her arms today, living in Hawaii!
SAM , the Chi Min Pin, is love rolled up into a dog! A certified blanket snuggler, with his big brown eyes, his one wonky ear and missing toes he does his Happy Treats Dance and no one's safe from his infectious whole body wag. He's living with Ted now and has almost forgotten how at one time he wasn't treated so well.
BUTTER's former owners couldn't take him with them when they moved, so they dumped him at the City Shelter where he didn't do so well. We snatched him up and when Beverlee saw this sweet Pomeranian boy it was a match made in Heaven ~ she adopted him and he just adores her. What a happy boy!
KOFI, a 14-year old possum-faced Chihuahua came to us timid and scared and had a mouthful of painfully infected teeth. Priya fell in love with him, got his bad teeth pulled, and still, TWO YEARS LATER he's giving the puppies at the dog runs and his one-year old sister some stiff competition!
FOXY was shuffled from home to home, growing more insecure and neurotic with each move until he met his wonderful foster parents, who really wanted to keep him, but just couldn't. They in turn found him the greatest forever home and now Foxy is one happy little dude!
PEACHES This funny little one-year old Lhasa Apso mix's fur was so long, dirty and matted it twisted her skin. She was so lost and frightened in the shelter and was scheduled to be euthanized for her bad behavior. Once placed in foster care, however, she proved to be a rowdy, loveable little clown and found a home with the Costas in White Plains.
KELLY the sweet German Shepard was rescued by one of our main volunteers and nursed back to health after being abandoned in a park. After rehabilitation and love, she proved to be a great family dog who could go anywhere with her family and fill their lives with love.

We just love Happy Endings, don't you?

But for every hello, there has to be a good-bye . . .

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our
special friends so they can run and play together. There's plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our
friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who've been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.
Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone special to
them who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly
stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins
to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You've been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous
reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the
beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life
but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

Monty

From the moment little 6-pound Monty came into their home, Jo and Alan were in love with this spunky little man. He strutted about on his goofy little legs and was a happy guy from day one, despite his chronic heart condition. He overcame his issues from his previous life very quickly and became accustomed to living in the lap of luxury, but was always a gentleman to other Waggytails who passed through as fosters and then to his other forever family members Bertie and Jack - also Waggytail Chis.

He gave and received two happy years of love and laughter.  He was quite the little comedian -- who can forget the noise he made in place of a bark -- and not forget his somewhat out of proportion man parts?

Finally his little heart finally could do no more and he left us.

He was loved and will be missed always -- Monty was the Man!

STANLEY KOWALSKI

The night we met Stanley, he was skin and bone, nervous and scared, we wondered would he ever love us. He had been treated so bad, WAGGYTAIL had rescued him from a kill shelter, he was completely starved, we had to keep a big sweater on him to cover up his protruding ribcage and hipbones and his poor little emaciated body.

This little dog had so many good reasons to be mean, skittish and difficult, but he never was. The moment we brought him home, he started showing us his big personality and living up to his name!

Slowly he got his appetite back and after a few weeks he let out a tiny little bark! We had adopted him but now he had adopted us! From then on, he was the one taking care of us, protecting us in our apartment from delivery men and guests alike!

He was the most handsome little blondey fella, even with half a tail and a chunk missing from his ear, people on the street would stop us and ask us was he a puppy, even though his real age was more like 10, according to our vet!

I don't know what it is that enables an abused animal to love again, to be so trusting and open and generous to love, Stanley with the biggest heart, was the snuggliest, happiest most affectionate little pooh-bear angel. He lived for cuddling...If you stopped petting him, he'd tap you with his paw and demand more...more...more...(His nickname was Oliver! ) He'd make these squeaky toy noises when he wanted something, he sounded like ET! He had no interest in other dogs, just us -- and food, of course !

We couldn't believe when he got sick after having gone through so much already, God knows he put up such a brave fight, it just didn't seem fair at all.

We hope he felt loved and that he's up there in heaven getting all the cuddles and snuggles he deserves. We can't believe he's gone from us.

Stanley R.I.P. Forever. We love and miss you, little man.

ROCKY

He had been mistreated before he was abandoned and found in a blizzard.  He probably had never been to a vet, which could have been why his heart condition became so pronounced.  From what we could tell, he had only ever eaten someone's leftover chicken from underneath the table, and he didn't know anything about walking on a leash.

He soon learned a lot of things he had never done before when he moved in with Stephanie and Rene: He went for walks with his girlfriend, Stella. He ate gourmet dog food and he got Wellness Puppy because it is the softest one and he could manage it even with only one tooth left.

It took him awhile to learn to play with Stella, something he had never done before. At first when she would spin and run, he would just bark. Later, he would run to her and bark.  After many months he learned to play, too.

Sometimes, the hardest thing was getting Rocky to eat. When he was having a bad day, Rene and Stephanie would lie on the floor for hours and sing to him.  Rene would sing him opera, which Rocky loved and would eat only after the opera commenced, but often it would take an hour or more to get him to eat his whole meal.

This wee doggie had a BIG heart. Despite his severe heart condition, he was a happy little guy. He loved his home with Rene and Stephanie, especially snuggling with them in bed. He loved blankets and would take his time to dig the perfect spot on a pillow.

Rocky followed Stephanie everywhere. He loved laps, and although hers was his favorite, he sampled every lap of their family and friends.

When Rocky finally passed, Rene and Stephanie took his ashes up to the Catskills, where he loved to go every summer, and said their final goodbyes.

They really loved their brave, sweet little guy, and miss him day and night

TURBO

While Turbo was born without his front legs, he was hardly handicapped. He skittered across the floor with the speed of a Cheetah and walked on his hindlegs with the confidence of a lion.

Barely half a year old, he was taking the world by storm...
until he was taken from us too soon, and left a trail of broken hearts behind.

ABBOTT

Little old Abbott was quite fast and alert for his 15 years. He was crabby as much as cuddly and everyone loved him - whether or not he loved them back. When he came to us he was horribly underweight and malnourished and had severe dental disease, which we fixed, leaving two perfect, white, healthy teeth. One night he awoke with seizures and passed away at the vet's office.

It was a shock and we were filled with sadness...but we know he's cheerful and happy in his new home.

SKOOTCH

“Skootchie’s First Day in Heaven”
Attention all you Basset Hounds!
Bloodhounds and Beagles too!
Notify the Newfoundlands!
The news you’ve heard is true!

Bring out your bright blue Frisbees
And roll out the rawhide too!
For a special pooch named Skootchie’s here
And wants to play with you!

Roll out the bright red carpet
That we save for holidays!
Fluff up that feathered doggy bed
That’s made from sunny days.

He’s bound to be quite thirsty
So fill up those bubbling streams.
And now that he can eat them-
One big box of chocolate creams!

Make sure he isn’t frightened—
Tell a joke or sing a song!
If you make it bright and jovial
He’s bound to sing along!

Race and play and bark and sneeze!
Run singly or in teams!
And show him how to leap much higher
Than his wildest dreams!

And when each day is over
Improvise a goodnight tune.
You won’t need words or melody
Just howl it at the moon!

If all these things you do for him
he’ll be a happy boy.
And here in heaven as on earth.
Each day will shine with joy.

~ Ted Lewis

Juan Carlos

We saw him in the cage at the shelter, a funny furry face desperately unhappy, slowly going insane from the nonstop barking and crying from the other cages and the metal beneath his paws. We took him home and he followed me everywhere and watched over me while I slept...my personal bodyguard.

Pamela came to meet him and we knew it was love at first sight. Never leaving her side and immediately settling into her for tummy rubs and ear scratches, we knew he was hers, so he let her take him home.

Who knew that five days later he'd be gone?

The doctor never determined what caused his death, all we know is that we miss our sweet little boy more than we ever thought possible. He was only with us a short while, but he gave us a lifetime of love.

Little Ophelia
This sweet old girl was found in a dumpster, tiny, blind and almost completely crippled. She had no teeth, so her tongue dangled out the right side of her mouth. We knew her days were numbered, so home with me she went. I wanted her to spend her last days with a blanket over her in a warm bed and kisses showered on her head.

She suffered a stroke one day and left us quickly. She touched our hearts in the short time she was with us and she is missed

MAX
Max was always special. He wasn't quick or smart or athletic, but he made up for it in spades with his affectionate, lopsided grin and finely honed cuddling skills. One night he went to sleep and just never woke up. His adoptive mom, Tyler, said he was just too sweet for this world, and he is missed every day.
RUFUS
Sweet old Rufus was given up when he was 15. His owners couldn't care for him anymore, so he came to live with us. One day he stopped eating and sleeping, and the vet found he had a massive tumor, so we had him put to sleep. With a grateful lick he went quickly and ran toward the Bridge.
