Foster Care is temporary care by foster "parents" who keep their canine guests safe and help train them to be more adoptable.
Helping a homeless Waggytail find a new home is a challenging yet rewarding experience. Our foster care is the cornerstone of our organization. We bring homeless dogs into the homes of our foster care volunteers, where they're loved and cared for until they can be placed in permanent homes. This approach allows each dog to receive very personalized care. Veterinary treatment, training and socialization is provided.
To be a foster home you must, of course, love dogs, be very patient, and be willing to spend time working with your foster dog. Fostering shouldn't be seen as a trial to see if you want to own a dog, but as a way to help a little life!
As a foster parent, you will observe your foster dog's temperament, behavior and manners, and teach them to become a great adoptable pet.
Sometimes people are apprehensive of fostering because they're afraid of becoming too attached to their canine guest and then having to give them up. Foster families just need to keep their goals in mind: when you're a foster home, you save the lives of many dogs.
As wonderful as it is to adopt, adoption saves only one or two dogs. Fostering saves so many more!
